Originally entitled South Side Nursery, the Center has a long and rich history as a child care provider for the south side residents of the City of Columbus, Ohio. In 1927, our current facility was donated by Mrs. W. A. Miller. The name was changed to South Side Learning & Development Center in 1984, to emphasize our Early Childhood Development component. Because of the great unmet need for infant and toddler care in Franklin County, South Side Learning & Development Center increased the number of high-quality child care spaces for infants and toddlers by opening a site at Lincoln Park on July 16, 2001.
SSL&DC is open year-round from 6:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. We have a full day program to accommodate infants, toddlers and preschoolers. The Center is closed on most major holidays and also one day during the summer for a staff development day.
Services are primarily provided to children of families residing in Franklin County who have a real need for child care. Priority is given to children whose parents are in training for full-time employment.
South Side is licensed for and enrolls up to 138 children between the ages of 6 wks and 5 years, regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, age or disability. Applications may be made by phoning 614-444-1529.
