Help Send South Side Early Learning to SXSW EDU 2022

South Side Early Learning is excited to have the opportunity to bring our innovation to SXSW EDU (pronounced South by Southwest E-D-U), an annual event that fosters innovation and learning within the education industry this March in Austin, TX for a four-day event offering compelling sessions, in-depth workshops, engaging learning experiences, mentorship, film screenings, future-focused competitions, an expo, networking opportunities, and so much more.

However, in order to share our work and represent Columbus, Ohio at SXSW EDU 2022, we need your help! In addition to the SXSW staff and Advisory Boards providing input on which speakers will present at SXSW EDU 2022, 30% of the final decision is made from voting from the community! Early Childhood Education as a Community Hub

Early education and child care centers have the power to enrich lives. Beyond the “ABCs” and “123s” lies the ability to empower children, strengthen families, and uplight entire neighborhoods. Discover how South Side Early Learning has been changing an all but forgotten neighborhood in Columbus, Ohio for nearly 100 years with its Family Resource Center.

Child Care for Job Seekers

In Ohio, state-sponsored publicly funded child care (PFCC) requires families to meet income requirements, be employed, in school, or in job training programs. The Child Care for Jobs Seekers program provides up to 6 months of high-quality early education and care for parents actively seeking employment or enrolled in job training programs. Once employment or training is secured, the family will work with the Family Resource Center to become eligible for PFCC or transition to tuition-based care.

Innovation, Research, & Early Childhood Education

The Center for Early Childhood Innovation at South Side Early Learning is an open-access research center focused on developing, evaluating, and refining best practices in early childhood education to close equity and access gaps for young children and their families. Through collaboration with SSEL’s classroom-based programs, The Center’s research explores topics pertaining to the early childhood workforce, child well-being, and 21st-century classroom practices.

Full Bellies, Full Minds in ECE

Good nutrition is vital for brain development and learning in infancy and early childhood. Research shows that food insecurity has a negative impact on reading and mathematics performances. Children in early education and preschool programs who are hungry or are stressed about when they will next eat struggle to stay awake, focus and learn. Partnering with a local food collective, early childhood programs can provide fresh, nutritious family style meals and be a partner in combating hunger.

They Wanted to Buy the Farm: Innovation in ECE

Playspace at South Side Early Learning (SSEL) is changing the way teachers can unleash creativity in their classroom to enhance engagement and learning with their students. Teachers are able to submit ideas on ways to innovate curriculum, classroom practice, workforce and professional development, and family engagement. Through collaboration, projects are piloted and then brought to life. Commitments to innovation, such as this project, saved and helped make South Side Early Learning thrive.

This session will be a live episode of our podcast Circle Time!
